Should you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ironically, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7331587368052736000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">my LinkedIn post<\/a> about my decision to leave LinkedIn became the most viral thing I&#8217;ve ever posted.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I actually did go off the platform, only checking a few times to see where the discourse was headed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has felt great. No despair from seeing the stupid AI prompt clickbait posts, more time to work on my clients&#8217; marketing projects, blog, and creative writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m going to stay off LinkedIn class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-linkedin-went-from-less-is-more-to-more-is-less\">How LinkedIn went from &#8220;less is more&#8221; to &#8220;more is less&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Back in May 2024, my LinkedIn feed was a waterfall of grindset and broetry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Five things I wish I&#8217;d known when starting my first company&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Once I learned to say no&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Never say never.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Over the next months, while Instagram was having its brat summer,&nbsp;<\/strong>thousands of aspiring business influencers were sweating out three LinkedIn posts per day in content-creator bootcamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"498\" height=\"497\" src=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/brat.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7312\" style=\"width:340px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/brat.gif 498w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/brat-12x12.gif 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Had it not been for so many content programs, simultaneously producing self-proclaimed authors (many of whom went on to launch their own programs, oh the downwards spiral), it\u2019s unlikely the cringy posts would have pulled so much traction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The reason why the posts featuring selfies and life-changing yet mysteriously identical stories&nbsp;<\/strong>of dropping out of college, landing dream jobs, and talking to strangers on streets got all that engagement is that commenting, too, was a checklist exercise towards LinkedIn stardom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In hindsight, the definition of brat\u2014accepting your imperfections while embracing chaos\u2014seems also like a pertinent descriptor for the pre-ChatGPT era LinkedIn zeitgeist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Perhaps, 2024 will go down in the annals as the height of civilisation LinkedIn.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruminating about my recent LinkedIn fatigue which covers all the available forms of the sensation (physical, mental, emotional, social, moral), I thought of a concept that applies to any <a href=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/ro\/social-media-in-2025-go-all-in-or-go-all-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media<\/a> platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early days, there\u2019s the online forum-like stage of&nbsp;<strong>less is more,<\/strong>&nbsp;where a small community of users engages in a genuine conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is followed by the general-adoption phase of&nbsp;<strong>more is more<\/strong>, where still few enough people publish quality posts, resulting in high engagement, rapid follower growth, and, ideally, income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, as the barrier of entry gets lower (new tools, free guides) and becoming an influencer is democratically available to anyone, we arrive at the era of&nbsp;<strong>more is less<\/strong>, a.k.a. the end of civilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This made me think of the final sequence of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bJsW6ta4X8o&amp;ab_channel=ZardozSpeaks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Antonioni&#8217;s Zabriskie Point (1970)<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 just beautiful!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"314\" not the first to note that AI-generated content is shaping the world for worse by impoverishing it of original ideas and intelligent meaning.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/originality.ai\/blog\/ai-content-published-linkedin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Research published in late 2024<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;reported that as of October 2024, ca 54% of long-form posts on LinkedIn were AI-generated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/article\/ai-generated-content-internet-online-slop-spam.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>New York Magazine article<\/strong><\/a>, Max Read wrote about the \u201crising tide of slop [that] has begun to swamp most of what we think of as the internet, overrunning the biggest platforms with cheap fakes and drivel, seeming to crowd out human creativity and intentionality with weird AI crap.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In my LinkedIn feed, the slop overtake manifests&nbsp;<\/strong>in thousands of posts promising AI prompts, cheatsheets, and breakdowns of X-billion revenue success stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, you&nbsp;<em>can<\/em>&nbsp;do all three in a single post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1106\" height=\"1360\" thing\u2014or at least what\u2019s so disgusting about it for me\u2014is not that 90% of these posts are copies of other posts, rewritten with AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s that thousands of people are commenting \u201cprompt\u201d to get access&nbsp;<\/strong>without ever questioning whether the author has ever achieved anything other than 1,000 comments under a LinkedIn post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s that everyone now believes that accessing a half-page Google Doc with an AI prompt will make them rich and famous in 10 minutes<\/strong>&nbsp;instead of hours of real hard work, not to mention thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"comment-vibe-marketing\">Comment \u201cVibe marketing\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What really got me was the flood of posts promising AI prompts for auto-generating ad creatives with the latest ChatGPT version.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the so-called vibe marketers, you can make millions by selling&nbsp;<em>anything<\/em>. They&#8217;re literally useless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>One more rant and then I\u2019m done, promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Last week, i saw a LinkedIn post by a marketing expert saying she booked 20 new leads by commenting under 100 LinkedIn posts over 5 days.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I checked her past 5 days&#8217; comments. (More on this later.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"preach-without-practice\">Preach without practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What happened to &#8220;Practice what you preach&#8221; \u2013 a LinkedIn post opener that just 12 months ago, one would regularly encounter?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was flipped into preach without practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overwhelming tsunami of LinkedIn content has led to a point where seeing a LinkedIn post that claims 20 new leads in 10 minutes, instead of questioning the author&#8217;s sanity we skip to the comments and type &#8220;cheatsheet.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/6xYEdxz8Qc4UzSp5Fs6gMs.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7302\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/6xYEdxz8Qc4UzSp5Fs6gMs.gif 480w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/6xYEdxz8Qc4UzSp5Fs6gMs-16x12.gif 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t get me wrong. It&#8217;s not all awful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are brilliant subject matter experts using LinkedIn as their primary marketing &amp; growth channel.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Like&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/majavoje\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Maja Voje<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kyle-poyar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Kyle Polar<\/strong><\/a><strong>. Like&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/emilysundberg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Emily Sundberg<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/rachel-karten-13331222\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Rachel Karten<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes a difference\u2014what makes these authors\u2019 posts authentic and useful\u2014is that they all have 10y+ experience in the industry, and writing a business newsletter is (mostly) their full-time job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is people with no real experience framing themselves as industry experts at 10min per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And who can blame them?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019ve paid for a content creator workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re following the exact checklist &amp; AI prompts catalogue provided by their (self)-qualified coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019ve commented \u201cprompt\u201d under a LinkedIn post with hundreds of comments and must now use it to create more, more, more content\u2014a horrible word in itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1128\" height=\"1140\" src=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/k7BMU6LLvrZSuVePdbLLvk.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7303\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/k7BMU6LLvrZSuVePdbLLvk.png 1128w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/k7BMU6LLvrZSuVePdbLLvk-768x776.png 768w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/k7BMU6LLvrZSuVePdbLLvk-12x12.png 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1128px) 100vw, 1128px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most importantly, the posts they generate with Chat GPT or Claude AI or whatever will get hundreds of likes and comments from&nbsp;<em>real people<\/em>. People like you and me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No wonder, Sherlock, that this economy of fantastical proficiency leads to content that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) focuses on cheap virality;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) is a copy of someone else\u2019s post, which is a copy of someone else\u2019s post, which is\u2026 written by AI.<br>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"i-just-can-t-do-linkedin-anymore\">I just can&#8217;t (do LinkedIn) anymore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I haven\u2019t been able to post on LinkedIn for about two weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not that I\u2019ve lacked ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather, I\u2019ve felt a sort of vertiginous revulsion every time I open it in a Chrome window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The feed is full of false promises, fake expertise, and thousands of people engaging with these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why would anyone want to participate, or even contribute?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn the latest best practices, build industry relationships, get new clients&#8230; You know why!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"265\" src=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/irDwfv61VSx4ReyMht5498.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7304\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/irDwfv61VSx4ReyMht5498.gif 500w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/irDwfv61VSx4ReyMht5498-18x10.gif 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And all the hours spent on posting, commenting, and liking&nbsp;<em>do<\/em>&nbsp;pay off, don&#8217;t they?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not in my experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"goodbye-to-all-that\">Goodbye to all that<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I tried active LinkedIn posting from January to April 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps I didn&#8217;t try hard enough \u2013&nbsp;I never reached the 7 posts + 50 comments per week schedule. In a way, I admire the people who&nbsp;<em>can<\/em>&nbsp;spend several hours daily on the platform. Superhuman stamina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Posting on LinkedIn helped to grow my newsletter readership, albeit slower than&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/knowledge.gtmstrategist.com\/p\/the-no-fluff-linkedin-ads-playbook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>writing a guest article<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;for another newsletter did.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"862\" height=\"1212\" src=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ceegju1XHvGbau3WgBowtY.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7305\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ceegju1XHvGbau3WgBowtY.png 862w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ceegju1XHvGbau3WgBowtY-768x1080.png 768w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/ceegju1XHvGbau3WgBowtY-9x12.png 9w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 862px) 100vw, 862px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The positive thing about creating these free resources is that they were genuinely helpful for other marketers &amp; founders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I might as well have shared them in this newsletter or my blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, all my course sales and consulting requests over past 6 months came via referrals and my newsletter&nbsp;<\/strong>(mostly pre-2025 readers).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not a single new consulting project or course sale came via Linkedin as the first touchpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of spending hours on brainstorming and creating \u201ccomment for access\u201d free checklists and libraries, plus more hours designing, writing, and publishing LinkedIn posts\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 I would much rather spend 10h writing a long-form blog article. Or a guest post. Or a newsletter. Or working on an actual project for a client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Another observation: At least for me, LinkedIn posts got much higher engagement 5-6 months ago compared to April-May 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every marketer I&#8217;ve asked about their LinkedIn engagement confirmed it has dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With more posts and less value, it&#8217;ll soon be more efficient to run <a href=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/ro\/linkedin-ad-examples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn ads<\/a> (vs spending billable hours chasing organic reach).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"i-m-giving-up-on-linkedin-but-should-you\">I&#8217;m giving up on LinkedIn but&#8230; Should you?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In a time when we\u2019re told \u201cyou can be doing it all,\u201d doing it all means you can\u2019t do any of it well.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the mantras I kept repeating to the participants of my DYI Marketing Audit course was to choose 2-3 marketing channels and focus on scaling them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I wrote in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/marketing-fix.karolakarlson.com\/posts\/marketing-fix-23-social-media-dilemmas-of-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Marketing Fix issue on social media<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong>&nbsp;you should either go ALL IN or ALL OUT on any marketing channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;re surrounded by so much noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s too much of everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only reasonable response\u2014at least one that I can think of\u2014is to decide what genuinely matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest you just filter out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"498\" height=\"373\" src=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/8373cSXDzWKPExrCXieUxN.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7306\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/8373cSXDzWKPExrCXieUxN.gif 498w, https:\/\/karolakarlson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/8373cSXDzWKPExrCXieUxN-16x12.gif 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m not going to delete my LinkedIn account \u2013 I&#8217;ll need it for keeping in touch with peers, clients, and colleagues.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I&#8217;m not going to create anything for merely posting on Linkedin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><s>When I publish a new blog article or newsletter, I&#8217;ll share it on LinkedIn as well.<\/s><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><s>When I have a hot take on something, e.g.&nbsp;<\/s><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/karola-karlson_big-shii-alert-this-is-the-biggest-activity-7325154854899695617-aVff?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAABQ_4IEBJ-Ze2cUiWeb0zzVJqGMiqVLYRxc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><s><strong>Bolt&#8217;s brand team flopping their latest campaign<\/strong><\/s><\/a><s>&nbsp;because of laziness and cultural ignorance\u200b, I&#8217;ll rant about it.<\/s><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I returned to the crossed-out lines after an evening walk, having realised that I should go full cold turkey on LinkedIn. It only adds anxiety to my life. So I will, at least for the next 3 months.
